FACADE & ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING

Bring Your Architecture to Life After Dark Refined. Directional. Built for Outdoors.

We design and install exterior lighting that highlights facades, entrances, columns, textures and architectural features. Fixture placement, beam direction and brightness are planned to enhance the building without creating unnecessary glare or light spill.

Exterior architectural lighting should be planned around fixture position, weather exposure, beam control and the surrounding property to achieve a balanced result.

How We Plan Facade & Architectural Lighting

We plan the lighting around the building’s form, materials and viewing angles.
Lighting Goals Building Assessment Feature Selection Fixture & Beam Selection Lighting Plan Installation Testing & Adjustment
Define what parts of the building should be highlighted Assess facade materials, height, access and existing electrical supply Identify entrances, columns, textures and architectural details Choose suitable outdoor fixtures, optics and beam angles Plan brightness, contrast, glare control and light distribution Install the agreed architectural lighting and electrical connections Test, aim and fine-tune the lighting after dark
Set the desired visual effect and level of illumination Review mounting points, cable routes and weather exposure Prioritise the architectural features with the strongest visual impact Match fixture type and beam spread to each surface or feature Balance architectural emphasis with surrounding ambient light Complete the installation according to the approved lighting plan Adjust beam direction, brightness and glare for the final result
Clear architectural lighting priorities Existing building conditions confirmed Key facade features confirmed Suitable fixtures and beam angles selected Clear facade lighting plan Architectural lighting installation completed Final testing and nighttime adjustment

Facade & Architectural Lighting FAQ

Important questions about beam control, glare, outdoor fixtures, placement and installation.
How do you avoid light spill onto neighbouring properties or windows?
We control fixture position, beam angle, shielding and brightness so the light stays focused on the intended facade or architectural feature. This is especially important on residential properties where uncontrolled spill can create glare or disturb neighbours.
What is the difference between wall washing and grazing light?
Wall washing creates broad, even illumination across a surface. Grazing light is positioned much closer to the facade and uses a sharper angle to emphasise texture, such as stone, brick or timber. The right method depends on the material and the visual effect you want.
How do you choose the correct beam angle for a facade?
Beam angle depends on the height and width of the feature, fixture distance, mounting position and desired intensity. Narrow beams are better for columns and selected details, while wider optics work better for larger wall surfaces.
Can architectural lighting be automated or zoned?
Yes. Different facade areas can be separated into control zones and connected to timers, dusk sensors, smart controls or other compatible automation. This allows entrance lighting, facade lighting and feature lighting to operate independently.
What should be considered when installing lighting on stone, brick, timber or rendered facades?
Each material behaves differently under light and may also require different mounting methods. Texture, reflectance, fixing points, moisture exposure and cable routing all affect fixture choice and placement.
What has the biggest impact on the cost of facade lighting?
The main factors are building height, access requirements, number and type of fixtures, cable routes, mounting complexity, control systems and whether additional electrical infrastructure is required.
