EV Charger Troubleshooting FAQ

Common questions about charger faults, electrical problems and repairs.
Why is my EV charger not charging?
A charger may fail to start because of a power supply issue, tripped protection, cable or connection fault, charger error, or communication problem. We check the electrical supply, protection, charger and connections to identify the cause.
Why does the breaker or RCD trip when I charge my car?
Repeated tripping can be caused by an electrical fault, unsuitable protection, overload, cable issue or a fault within the charger. The charging circuit should be inspected before continued use.
Why does charging start and stop by itself?
Intermittent charging can be caused by loose connections, unstable supply, cable problems, charger faults or protection devices reacting to an issue. We diagnose the system to find the underlying cause.
Is it normal for an EV charger or cable to become warm?
Some warmth can occur during charging, but unusual heat, a hot plug, hot connections or burning smells should be investigated. Stop using the charger if you notice excessive heat or visible damage.
What should I do if my EV charger shows an error light or fault code?
Stop and check the charger manufacturer’s basic instructions first. If the error returns or the charger does not work normally, book a fault diagnosis so the electrical supply, protection and charger installation can be checked.
Can you repair the charger during the troubleshooting visit?
Minor electrical faults may sometimes be corrected during the visit. If replacement parts, manufacturer-specific repairs or larger electrical work are required, we will explain the fault and provide a recommendation or quote before additional work.
