Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about smart dimmers, switches, sensors, compatibility and lighting control.
Will my existing lights work with smart dimmers?
Not always. LED lamps, drivers and dimmers must be compatible. Some LEDs may flicker, buzz, fail to dim smoothly or not dim low enough if the load and dimmer do not match. We check the existing light source and driver before installation.
Do I need to replace my existing wall switches?
Not necessarily. Depending on the system and wiring, smart control can sometimes be added using an in-wall module, connected dimmer or wireless switch. The best solution depends on the existing installation.
Do smart lights still work if the internet goes down?
In many systems, local control can continue, but app access and remote control may be limited. For example, Schneider Wiser devices can continue operating locally through the gateway even if internet access is lost, while remote app control requires internet connectivity.
Do I need a hub or gateway?
It depends on the system. Some simple room-level smart controls can work without a gateway, while full app control, schedules, remote access and larger systems may require one. Schneider, for example, requires a Wiser Gateway for full app-based configuration and control. Schneider Electric
Why does my LED light flicker or buzz when dimmed?
This is usually a compatibility issue between the LED lamp/driver and the dimmer, or an unsuitable minimum load or dimming method. The correct dimmer and configuration must be matched to the light source.
What do you need to know before giving me a price?
We normally need to know how many lights or zones you want to control, whether they are dimmable, what type of lamps/drivers are installed, whether you want app/remote control, and whether your existing switches and wiring can be reused.
